ARTIST & FILMMAKER
Tenzin Phuntsog is an artist and filmmaker whose practice spans narrative film, moving image installation, and archive. Working across deep time, shooting on 35mm, their work navigates the space between what is lost and what persists — through surrogate landscapes, language, the karmic weight of lives, and a singular diasporic gaze. They are a 2026 Guggenheim Fellow.
Their debut feature Next Life premiered at FID Marseille 2025, was selected for New Directors/New Films 2026, reviewed in The New Yorker, and is set for theatrical distribution with Lunette Films. Next Life has screened at many notable film festivals including Blackstar, Message to Man Russia, European Media Art Festival, and El Foro Internacional de Cine Mexico. Their second feature, Sentient Beings, is in development with the support of SFFILM Film House Residency, San Francisco.
Their moving image installation work is represented by Microscope Gallery, New York. Their most recent solo exhibition, The Last Dream at the End of the World, was an Artforum Must-See reviewed in Screen Slate. Recent exhibitions include Pure Land at Microscope Gallery, Berlinale Forum Expanded, Seoul Media City Biennale, European Media Art Festival, The Tang Museum, and Gyatso at Haus für Medienkunst, Germany.
